The Gourmet Bagel Co: Reviews & Ratings
Today we went to the new Gourmet Bagel Co. on Route 58 in Riverhead. The place is spotless, the staff is friendly, and the bagels are absolutely delicious! Authentic N.Y. bagels like the ones you get in Brooklyn. Fresh, chewy, and perfectly cooked. Also got the garden vegetable cream cheese. It’s such a welcome addition to the area. Can’t wait to go back!
OK, so I was a little comprehensive about the name “gourmet” because I thought the bagels were gonna be like bread instead of a real bagel. But to my surprise, they were big and perfect just the right snap, denseness and chewy consistency of a New York bagel. The help and overall cleanliness of the place was excellent. I would go back there and recommend you do too.
Stopped by this local deli for a quick bite, and it didn’t disappoint. The bread was fresh and held everything together without getting soggy. Sides like coleslaw and pickles added a nice touch, and the service was fast and friendly. Perfect spot for a casual lunch or a grab-and-go meal.
I only gave the food four stars due to the fact that I specifically looked up a place that offered Gluten free options due to my Celiac disease . On the day that I visited they only had plain GF bagels, no everything flavored and when I asked for mine to be toasted the young man behind the counter was going to toast it where he normally toasts the other bagels. (Cross Contamination) I stopped him before he did but still didn’t feel safe to eat another GF bagel that was cold and bagged. There is no dedicated space to GF prep as the counter was filled with crumbs and high chance of cross contamination if using a butter or cream cheese. The omelette I ordered was delicious as were the potatoes and coffee. Hopefully they can take some steps to prep GF.
Gourmet Bagel has recently become my new spot. The bagels are excellent — traditional boiled and baked in-house with that perfect chew, and plenty of seeds on both sides (a detail I really appreciate). The atmosphere is clean, modern, and clearly designed with care. Even though it’s brand new, it’s already busy, and the staff couldn’t be nicer, super friendly and helpful every time I’ve been in. Food-wise, everything we’ve tried has been great. The egg everything bagel with cream cheese had that crisp crust and chewy inside. The BEC platter was spot-on, I asked for the bacon well done and it came out perfect, with nicely seasoned potatoes on the side. Coffee is self-serve (which I prefer), and they’ve got plenty of creamers but I take mine black. For lunch, we've had the chicken salad with cranberries, apples, and walnuts in a lettuce wrap, fresh and exactly as delicious as it sounds. They’ve got all the classic sandwiches plus a lineup of creative sandwiches with fun names. The Fat Tony and the Little Galamad were both flavorful and came with a side salad. Honestly, the sandwich names are half the fun, it makes trying new ones even better. Portions are generous too. Overall, great people, great bagels, and creative sandwiches that make it easy to stop in for breakfast or lunch, or order online. Definitely worth checking out.
OMG! I couldn’t get home fast enough to write a five star review for the Gourmet Bagel Co. We arrived early morning today at the store to pick up bagels for my niece’s bridal “Glam Squad”. Luckily for us, behind the counter this morning was our Angel, Corinne. Corinne convinced us that “bagels in a bag” would not suffice for such a special occasion and proceeded to set us up with a gorgeous bagel basket accompanied by all the trimmings. BEAUTIFUL! As we waited, I ordered a bagel for myself which turned out to be one of the BEST I have ever had.. Needless to say, the bagel basket was a tremendous hit! However, the true star of the show was Corrine who created a momentous experience for us newbies of GBC.
First time trying this place, Riverhead definitely needed a new bagel/breakfast spot. Everything was almost perfect. I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese on an egg bagel. It was perfect, delicious and exactly what I ordered. Really good. I got a small cup of coffee which was included with my sandwich- awesome. They have a great variety of everything, not just breakfast but lunch items too. The only semi-negative part of my experience was that when I first walked in I was ignored for a few minutes. No one greeted me, or even made eye contact. A simple, “I’ll be with you in a moment” would’ve been great and made a better first impression. There was one person ordering ahead of me, but otherwise it wasn’t insanely busy. It won’t deter me from trying them again, but just a suggestion to at the very least acknowledge your customers existence (even if busy) when they’re waiting to order, because I was half tempted to just leave. They’re new so I’m sure the kinks will be worked out. When I did interact with the employees they were all very nice. OTHERWISE it was a good experience. And I’d recommend them.

This spot brings the tradition of boiled and baked bagels to the East End, delivering that perfect chew and snap that true bagel lovers crave. Walking into their clean, modern café, you're met with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff ready to serve up more than just bagels.
The star here is undoubtedly their bagels — dense, fresh, and generously seeded on both sides. From the crisp crust and chewy inside of their egg everything bagel with cream cheese to the generous BEC platter featuring perfectly cooked bacon and seasoned potatoes, every bite resonates with quality and attention to detail. Their bagels stand out from the typical bread-like offerings found elsewhere, sticking true to the time-honored New York style.
What elevates The Gourmet Bagel Co beyond just great bagels is their creative sandwich lineup. Options like the Fat Tony and Little Galamad showcase bold flavors, complemented by fresh side salads or classic deli touches like garden vegetable cream cheese. Their chicken salad, packed with cranberries, apples, and walnuts, wrapped in crisp lettuce, is a refreshing departure from the ordinary. While their self-serve coffee station may appeal to purists, the friendly and attentive service rounds out the experience. That said, there is room for improvement in their gluten-free offerings, especially concerning cross-contamination precautions. Still, the delicious omelet, crispy potatoes, and overall cleanliness reflect a strong commitment to quality.
In sum, The Gourmet Bagel Co is a new gem in Riverhead’s food scene. Its authentic New York bagels, imaginative sandwiches, and inviting setting make it ideal for breakfast or lunch. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or leisurely enjoying the menu, this deli is well worth a visit — a place where tradition meets thoughtful innovation, satisfying both classic and contemporary palates.
